American mahjong tiles must work from every seat, not only in a close-up photograph. Start with the tile face. Arabic numerals should be easy to locate, wind letters should be distinct, and suit artwork should remain recognizable under ordinary room lighting.
Check contrast before color
Pastel tiles can be highly readable when line art and labels are dark enough. Gloss, translucency, and layered acrylic are visual features; they should never obscure the number or suit.
Check the complete set
Confirm the active tile count, jokers, flowers, racks, dice, storage, and whether the current annual card is included. Mahjong Belle’s current collections contain 160 tiles and list the material construction on each product page; the annual rules card is purchased separately.
Use real-table photographs
A face-on product image proves the artwork. A full-table image proves scale and distance readability. Use both before choosing a set for a beginner, club, or gift.
