The arrival of a new annual card can feel like a new game, but most of your table knowledge still transfers. The deal, Charleston, draw-and-discard rhythm, exposure rules, joker limits, and Mahjong check remain the framework. What changes is the menu of winning hands.
Start with sections, not individual hands
Read the 2026 card by section. Notice which areas favor numbers, winds and dragons, consecutive runs, odds, evens, or like numbers. Choose two sections that fit how you naturally sort tiles. This reduces decision overload during the Charleston.
Practice with the card fully visible
For the first few games, keep the card open, discuss possible hands, and allow slower turns. The objective is pattern recognition—not speed. Before calling a discard, verify the exact group size, suit requirement, and whether the hand is exposed or concealed.
Do not blend seasons
